Cleveland Wrench & Manufacturing Company
Cleveland, OH - Incorporated October 28, 1901. A notice in the 1/1/1902 edition of The Plumber's Trade Journal notes the officers as W. F. Hoppensack - Pres.; J. F. Burr - VP and GM; H. A. Stahl - Sec./Treas. The article notes they have been formed to produce the Cleveland "Double Grip" pipe wrench. We believe it is highly likely that is is actually J. "T." Burr, and the company was formed to produce a pipe wrench based on Patent #710,179 - Wrench - Jesse T. Burr of Cleveland. At some point we believe the name was changed to simply the Cleveland Wrench Company. The company is listed as late as 1949 in hardware directories.
Wrenches branded Cleveland with Patent #D138,173 by Edward Matthews have been found.
