Used on Bonney sockets and box wrenches during the Triangle Tools era. I think it was originally designed for aircraft hydraulic use, designated as AS-954 certified. The rounded "lobed" profile moved the contact area back away from the corner on to the flat of the fastener, thereby reducing rounding and fastener deformation. Much like S-O's Flank Drive did, just a few years earlier.
